you live within me

three years today my dad left this physical world.

three years is not that long but i have come a long way and there is just so much more to come. i am living on my own, doing well in school, exploring the world, discovering myself and finding my path. i feel he is proud of me when i am proud of myself.

my family will come together tonight for dinner in honour of our father. they, too, have come so far and accomplished many things. my next oldest brother is also living on his own, doing well at work, following his heart. my oldest brother and his wife have a house, a beautiful son and one more gift to come. i am so proud of them too.

thank you, dad. you taught us some vital life lessons that we experience and apply to our lives every day. thank you for showing us the meaning of unconditional love, the meaning of family. i can't wait to pass that on. thank you for giving us the gift of life, the greatest gift of all. though we come together today, we honour you every day. we are not sad; we are eternally grateful.

your body may not be here with us but your essence is ever present. your spirit lives within the hearts you've touched. you live within us.
